Alfred's Thoughts

So in Part 1 I talked about how I pressured washed the whole driveway and backyard, the stones looked nice and clean. I was pretty happy with how it turned out, all the roots and weeds between the stones also had been blown away by the pressure washing power. The thing I did not consider was the sand between the tiles :). I thought they can just be left empty, but I was wrong, it seems whenever this driveway and backyard was built, since then there has been some shifting in the tiles so they had pretty big gaps in-between. You can see some of the gaps between the tiles here I bought about 75kg worth of sand to pour and fill in between the tiles, I also bought another 50kg of sand that is waiting to be used once this current layer settles. Spreading the sand onto the tile gaps My first idea was to just pour the sand in-between the gaps by hand or with a small shovel.. But thanks to my smart partner, pouring all the sand down and pushing it over the tile and tile gaps with a broom or ...

So today1 I did some pressure washing! Since I have moved into this new house I have disliked how the driveway and backyard concrete tiles looked. They had bunch of moss and black coating (forgot what it is called). So I was finally able to rent a pressure washer and be on my way on this DIY adventure. Bare in mind I have never pressured washed before. Before, with a smiley face (forgot to take picture of it while dry) I began on the driveway first as the garage was providing a little bit of shade from the sun, it was 25°C so I had my hat and started on my way, at the start I thought I'd be sweating way more than I thought, but the fine particles of the pressure washer being blown away with the wind was kind of chilling among all the dirt and gunk. First few tiles washed, smiley face for testing The whole process, albeit messy was very satisfying. Being able to wash away all the spots and get nice clean spot under was super nice (for now)! I also started doing the side concrete skir...

When the setup of this site was finished, with the help of Ben Yafai. I wanted to somehow visualize how I upload the pictures and host them, the easiest solution was to just dump the images into a folder like /public/image/... or something. I wanted to first strip any metadata of the images I upload and also to compress them, as well as to be able randomize their name during upload, so instead of it saying WhatsApp Image yada.png it would be a random string SDFSDFSSDF.png. Now I could've done this all by hand if needed per image, it isnt like I am posting too many images? (Hopefully I will do that in the future, maybe setup a gallery page? I really like how Keir Ansell showcases his pictures). I explored a few options like Cloudflare Images, MySQL Databases (overkill much?). I then found this GitHub repo of awesome open source self-hosted applications. Within their Single-click & Drag-n-drop Upload options they had quite a few. The main options I tested were; ass, Uploady, and Zipl...

I don't usually share pictures of my cats, they're both just cats, regular old cats (they are pretty young not old in age). One is a healthy boy and active as hell (Bento) that is 1.5 years old. The other is a more calm with small bursts of activity due to her heart murmur (Esper) that is 2.5 years old. I thought I'd write a post about them both so they are somewhere in my digital garden, so behold these two cats. Esper Esper and her focus face Her name is Esper, short for Espresso (at the time I was really into coffee when naming her). Her character is quite loud and vocal, she talks a lot, and if not met with her demands will talk your ear off if needed. She likes to be held like a baby and doesn't bite or growl at humans. Though at her brother Bento or the vet? Hell comes loose and the demons come out. Bento Bento, a little chonky in this picture His name is Bento, for being food motivated and always hungry even when full! He is quite chubby in that picture, but it is an older one...

A few folks from omg.lol are joining WeblogPoMo 2024 which is setup and organized by Apple Annie. It sounded fun so I thought I would also join as it might help me write more! What is WeblogPoMo you might ask? It stands for Weblog Posting Month. Daily in the month of May I will be trying to write something and publishing it to my site. You can read all the posts under my #WeblogPoMo2024 tag and or subscribe to my RSS or JSON feed. You can read more about the WeblogPoMo on the page Annie has setup, she encourages people to choose a guiding topic for the month. I have thought about it pretty long and hard but I was out of ideas on what topic I should cover for an entire month. Instead of one single topic or ideas for the whole month and writing about it, I am going to just fill randomly throughout the month of different topics, I recently moved so there is a bunch of DIY projects I would like to do and finish, that is one for example, I have some personal topics, technology topics, silly...
